Write Right

When writing about texts, lift the level of your work. Also, always reflect on how to improve your writing.

Reflection: Answer this in your notetaking notebook. Based on the summaries you wrote, what did you do well? How can you improve the writing of your summaries?


More guidelines:
1. Include title and author, spelled correctly.

2. Accurately write the title.

• Use " " with titles of short works such as articles, essays, poems, and short stories
• Underline or italicize the titles of long works such as novels, websites, and films
• Always capitalize the first and last word and all verbs, adjectives, adverbs, nouns, and pronouns 

3. Write correct, concise sentences.

Example: The article "10 Things You Need to Know about China" by Patricia Smith focuses on the idea that there are many things that people, especially Americans, don't know about China. 

4. Challenge: Rather than beginning your paragraph or essay by simply introducing the title and author, begin with an engaging hook that introduces the main idea in an interesting way.

Exercise: Write the following sentences in your notebook, making sure to correct the mistakes.

• The article "10 things you need to know about China" by Patricia Smith she explained how China is very controlled by the government. 

• The article From the Vote to the White House by Monica Davey shows how women's rights from over the years has progressed.

• In the article "10 things you need to know about China" written by Patricia Smith it shows that many different ways China has improved in the last two decades.
