Final Poetry Assignment
In the last few weeks, we have read, reflected on, discussed, and written about a variety of poems. We have also, through writing prompts and in-class Monday Muses, written our own poems. Look back at what you have written and choose your best work; revise and turn it into a final draft. The final will be graded and submitted to the City College Poetry in Performance Project for possible publication in their annual literary journal.
Final Poem:
- choose and bring in your first draft tomorrow.
- write a 2-3 paragraph reflection:
2. What have you learned in this unit? How has your understanding and experience with poetry changed? What lessons and discussions were significant and memorable? Why?
- final draft must be typed and neatly presented; hand in 2 copies of your final poem
- attach drafts and rubric
- extra credit for illustrating and adding relevant visuals and/or performing the poem to the class
- Due Date: Monday March 3
Mentor Text:
- choose a mentor text from the packet or choose a different poem; check with me first about this
- read, annotate, and complete chart for this poem
- write a new poem inspired by your mentor text, using some of the techniques from the poem
