1. Reread the rubric and complete the checklist. What are 1 or 2 characteristics that are missing or need to be revised in your response?
2. Reread your response. Make editing marks.
3. Focus on the body paragraphs. Mark and label each of the following parts of each paragraph.
- main idea clearly stated in the topic sentence which is the 1st 1 or 2 sentences in the paragraph. Make sure it accurately supports the thesis statement which is stated in the introduction.
- briefly-stated context or background for the reader to understand
- relevant quotation (passage from the text) that accurately and most strongly emphasizes and proves the main idea of the paragraph. Do you introduce the quotation smoothly?
- elaboration on quotation in at least 2-3 sentences; explain what it means and how it proves the main idea
- concluding sentence - final sentence that completes the paragraph and emphasizes the main idea and connects to the next paragraph
