1. The vocab quiz that I promised you will take place on Wed November 7. I will conduct a review during zero period on that day. What to know: all 20 Unit 1 vocabulary words (spelling, definition, parts of speech, use in a sentence, synonyms), and prefixes and suffixes from p. 8 (need to give sample word and part of speech for words with -ity, -or, -ion, -ate, -ize, -able, ible, -ish, -like; write down vocabulary word with a prefix and one with a suffix; turn vocabulary words into nouns)
2. Please have quiz #2 signed by parents; this counts as a homework.
3. Blog Post #1 (Nonfiction Reading Response) for 2nd marking period due ThursdayFriday November 9:
Read and annotate at least 2 different articles that relate to Hurricane Sandy, articles that moved your feelings and thoughts; due Wednesday.
Write a reading response on 1 of the articles, or about both. Feel free to choose an article that you can also use for your current events assignment for Science. Publish your response by Friday November 9.
In your response, include at least 2 quotations from the sources. Here is one way to organize your response; feel free to be more creative and use a more personalized structure:

4. Ways to help and contribute to victims of Hurricane Sandy:
a) Mr. Hornberger, our Visual Arts teacher, has suffered extreme damage to his home. I am collecting monetary donations to help him with gas and transportation to get to work. Also, you may donate toys or books for his 5-year old daughter.
b) We are also collecting for the Red Hook Initiative and for Coney Island residents. Please bring in: blankets, pre-paid phone cards, batteries, supplies for babies (diapers and such), canned foods, flashlights,

- Include a brief 1 paragraph summary as your introduction. What does the author want you to know?
- Write 1-3 body paragraphs elaborating on evidence in the text. What did they author make you think and feel? What are the most important realizations you gained from reading the article?
