"A book, too, can be a star, 'explosive material, capable of stirring up fresh life endlessly,' a living fire to lighten the darkness, leading out into the expanding universe." - from Madeleine L'Engle's Newberry Medal Acceptance Speech

Picture Book Share

Take out your favorite picture books and awaken the inner child within you!

In small groups of 3-4, take turns introducing your books and read aloud one of them or read excerpts from more than 1 book.
Go in order from oldest to youngest. You will each have 5 minutes to share.

While students are reading aloud, take notes in your notebook. Write down the name of the student sharing and 2 or 3 things you noticed and liked about the text and illustrations.

Concluding Reflection - answer these in your notebook:

1. What are the features of picture books?

2. What ideas do you have for writing your own?
