Romeo and Juliet Final Project Rubric

Directions: For the final project, each student will be responsible to prepare and perform a scene in the play.

1. Create a prompt book. Print out or photocopy your scene. Annotate and paraphrase your lines. It is your responsibility to investigate your lines and be an expert on your scene. Block and include stage direction. Include notes for body language, articulation, costumes, etc.
2. Work cooperatively with your group. Always be prepared. Your group and the class depend on you.
3. Practice and memorize your lines. Perform for the class in the Black Box Theater.
4. Write a letter, journal entry, or poem from the point of view of your character in your scene. Include details from the text to show your character’s thoughts, feelings, and actions. This should show depth and complexity.
5. Post-performance Reflection (typed): 1) Describe your character. What did you want to communicate about her/him in your performance? 2) How did the performance go? What did you do well? If you could have changed and improved something in your performance, what would it be and why? c) What did you learn and gain from the Romeo and Juliet unit? How can you apply the skills and lessons to high school English?   
6. 1st draft promptbook due: Mon June 1; Revised promptbook due Mon June 8
7. Practice and rehearsals: June 2-June 8
8. Final performance: 810 and 812: Wed June 10; 811: Thur June 11
9. Hand in completed final project the day after final performance.

1. Promptbook/Investigation: read, research, paraphrase
2. Body language and facial expressions: use your whole body to communicate character; interact clearly with other characters in your scene
3. Words and articulation: pronunciation, memorization, emphasis, pausing and pacing, volume, and inflection
4. Stage, costumes, props: interact with space intentionally, use stage direction, and add costumes and props
5. Practice and performance: work cooperatively with your group; practice a lot on your own and with your group; perform for your audience; hand in typed character letter/journal/poem and reflection
