Qualities of a RAD Reading Response

  • strong word choice; using sophisticated vocabulary
  • voice/tone: you can address the reader somewhat yet not be too casual or informal; showing interest and enthusiasm for your topic
  • analyzing the theme of the text - elaborating and explaining what the text shows about a particular topic like friendship; showing the messages 
  • well-organized paragraphs and structure; you want the writing to flow
  • engage the readers: 
    • strong introduction
    • ask questions
    • strong voice/tone
    • don't summarize too much
    • be descriptive about characters and other aspects of the text - give examples, describe their traits
  • details and elaboration - provide a variety of details; relevant quotations
