- Structure and organization - organize your ideas in an intentional, smooth way:
- Intro: state focus (thesis statement or main idea); state title and author of text
- Body paragraphs: explain and support your thesis
- Conclusion: connect the texts; explain the lessons you learned; connect the text to the world
- Details:
- include only the most important details that relate to your focus
- include just enough summary of the story to keep readers interested in reading it but not too much so that reader gets bored
- if you're writing about character, include traits, how they change
- how you relate to the text; your own opinions, thoughts, feelings
- important quotation
- explain an important part of the story
- be concise (get straight to the point)
- stay on topic - don't ramble
- strong voice/tone: care about what you are writing; put your self in the text
