"A book, too, can be a star, 'explosive material, capable of stirring up fresh life endlessly,' a living fire to lighten the darkness, leading out into the expanding universe." - from Madeleine L'Engle's Newberry Medal Acceptance Speech

Overview of Blog Project

Salutations! Welcome to Ms. Galang's 8th Grade ELA (English Language Arts) page!

The purpose of this blog is to expand and energize our school reading and writing community, make transparent to parents, students, and faculty the critical and creative work we are doing in the classroom, create portfolios of student work, and to save paper.

Students, you are required to:
  1. post a response at least once a week (due every Thursday). You can turn assigned entries into responses or write new ones. They can be reading responses on assigned or self-chosen texts or other writing entries. Later you will also post major writing assignments.
  2. follow/read and respond to at least 3 students' blogs every week (also due Thursday).
  3. have fun and be creative. Remember, your audience includes peers, teachers, and family. This is a professional, academic forum.
Here is the reading response rubric we went over in class and used to assess sample student work. Use it to help you assess your own work and to remind yourself of the writing that I expect from you.

Family and staff: feel free to read and comment.

Thank you for your attention. Happy blogging and happy reading!
